Kirkby Fleetham Community Farm

A group of local residents are looking into setting up a community farm in Kirkby Fleetham to produce a range of fresh organic food for the local community.

The farm would operate on a member/volunteer model where fruit, vegetables, herbs, dairy, meat and even other products such as honey; are produced in a small scale organic system that aims to provide high quality seasonal produce to its members throughout the year.

The benefits of the farm could be numerous and include increasing access to nutritious fresh produce, reducing packaging and food miles, increasing social activity between community members and providing quality food at good prices at a time when food prices are increasing dramatically.

A potential site has been identified just outside the village and anyone who is interested in the idea is asked to get in touch to demonstrate support for a more formal proposal to be put together and submitted. There will also be opportunities to become part of the scheme either as a member or volunteer in due course.

For now, anyone who would like to express support for the scheme is asked to get in touch with James Sturdy by emailing jamessturdy22@yahoo.com.

James would like to hear from anybody regardless of age or experience at this stage to gain an idea of what support there would be for the scheme if it were to go ahead before a proposal is put together.
